GRADE/EARTHWORK FOREMAN - Knowledge must include but not be limited to ensuring quality construction of excavation/embankment to proper line, grade and density, installation of subbase, underdrain, stone ditches and other related project features.

Supervises, trains and evaluates all members of the crew. Reinforces company policies, culture, values and work ethic to all employees. Develop short and long-range manpower, equipment and material requirements to meet project schedule and budget and discuss with Superintendent.

Conduct weekly toolbox meetings with crew. Ensure proper use by all project personnel of Personal Protection Equipment - hard hats, reflective vests, safety glasses, gloves, ear protection, work boots, lockout/tag out procedures.

Ensure safe equipment use and daily maintenance. Create daily Foremen’s reports with proper cost codes, contract item numbers, pay quantities, labor, equipment, and rental equipment reporting for LDI crews and any Subcontractors. Ensure that daily work is inspected by DOT/Owner/Inspector and recorded for payment.

Communicate routinely with Superintendent about current jobsite status. Inform Superintendent of any changed conditions or conflicts that affect the project. Understand and properly implement DOT specifications and procedures.

MUST PASS A PRE-EMPLOYMENT DRUG SCREENING., Must be willing to travel., Must be willing and able to work in a fast-paced environment which includes long hours., Must be capable of strenuous physical exertion and lifting heavy items., Must be prepared to work in all weather conditions., Must be able to multi-task and accommodate multiple requests effectively., Must be able to work independently as well as part of a team., Must be able to communicate well with management, crew and project owners’ representatives., Must have the appropriate tools of the trade.
A high school diploma or GED is required., Strong math, written and verbal communication skills are required., An advanced degree is a plus., In lieu of an advanced degree, 5+ years of experience in heavy highway or bridge construction required.
Computer Skills:
Basic computer skills are required., Strong PC/Microsoft Office skills (including MS Excel/MS Word) are preferred., Ability to read and interpret project specifications, blueprints/plans is required., Ability to work with electronic files including 3D Models of construction sites is required., Knowledge of NYS DOT MURK Forms is preferred.
Professional Licenses/Certifications:
A valid OSHA 10-Hour certification is required., A valid OSHA 30-Hour certification is preferred.
Driver's License:
CDL Endorsements for Air Brake, Tanker and Hazardous Materials are preferred., A valid Commercial Drivers’ License (CDL) Class A or B is preferred., Must have valid driver's license, good driving record required.
Operations Experience:
Experience on DOT projects is a plus., Knowledge of GPS Survey, GPS Machine Control and 3D Models is preferred., Knowledge of control traverse/networks, road alignments, station and offset and other highway related surveying is required., Knowledge of occupational hazards and standard safety practices is required.
