Description

An Estimator must have strong math skills and a high attention to detail in order to prepare cost estimates for heavy/civil construction projects. All work is time sensitive, so an estimator must be prepared to work as required to meet customer deadlines.

The duties include reviewing plans, proposals & specifications, calculating takeoff quantities of all work items, work with engineering as needed for schedule analysis, false work & lifting plan design and computing cost of construction. An estimator must also maintain the estimating software system.

The estimator also searches for new bid opportunities and assists in the transition to the project management team for projects won.

MUST PASS A PRE-EMPLOYMENT DRUG SCREENING., Must be willing and able to work in a fast-paced environment which includes long hours., Must be able to multi-task and accommodate multiple requests effectively., Must be able to work independently as well as part of a team.

Education:

A high school diploma or GED is required., Strong math, written and verbal communication skills are required., A Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering from an accredited program is preferred., An advanced degree is a plus., In lieu of an advanced degree, 5+ years of experience in heavy highway or bridge construction preferred.

Computer Skills:

Basic computer skills are required., Strong data entry skills are required., Strong PC/Microsoft Office skills (including MS Excel/MS Word) are required., Ability to read and interpret project specifications, blueprints/plans is required.

Driver's License:

Must have valid driver's license, good driving record required.
